North Carolina Entomological Society
North Carolina Entomological Society
NCES is a membership based nonprofit organization primarily focused on encouraging academic research and professional development. Our members represent a diversity of academic degrees, professions, background, and interests. The common bond we share is a passion for insects.
I have been the treasurer for NCES since October 2023, and I manage all the budgeting and reporting. Outside of this role I collaborated with a graphic designer and did a brand redesign with a new logo for merchandising through Promotional Partners (Apex, NC).
I provided the digital sketches and color sets, and Beck Buss image traced and created the vectorized logo. All other merchandising was coordinated by myself and Promotional Partners.
Ethnobotanical Perspective on Anopholes Biocontrol
During my ethnobotany course at NCSU developed a theoretical biocontrol plan for Anopholes mosquitoes on a global scale using Utricularia spp., a group of bladderwort plants that predate the insect and would provide disease control for humans. The four pieces show the life cycle of the plant throughout the four seasons (winter, spring, summer and fall respectively) as well as its ethnobotanical relationship to people as a food source. I wanted to create an ecological portraiture of how we have always managed a constantly changing ecosystem.

ULTRAVIOLET at NCSU
Ultraviolet is a student organization at North Carolina State University that I started for lesbian and sapphic students as a support and leadership system during college. Most of the activities were focused on self expression and community building.
I served as president of this club for four years as a student as NCSU. I coordinated events for up to 50 people and was also involved in Second Chance Prom, a student fund raised social event for LGBT students on campus that get a second chance at prom where they can be out in a public space with their dates and feel free and supported.
Outside of presidency, I was in charge of a monthly submission based art zine starting in 2021 and collaborated with students in the design program to make a free, physical zine of art made by other members of the Ultraviolet organization. Poetry, prose, digital and scanned physical media were accepted.
